Giving thanks

When I lived in the U.S., I learned to love Thanksgiving. It was a great occasion to get together with friends (also known as the « chosen family ») for an official holiday, spend some time outdoors together and cook a big turkey meal. Francophone Québécois don’t really celebrate thanksgiving – which they see as a simple day off from work – so I hadn’t celebrated that holiday since I moved back to Québec. I missed it.

This year, our friends from Vermont (who are also part time montrealers), invited us to spend a Fall weekend with them and decided to make a joint Canadian\American thanksgiving feast. We came back home happy with full bellies, lots of Vermont cheddar, fresh apples, knowledge about the best border lines to cross, and memory cards full of… memories, of course, thanks to our generous hosts.

Old times

I came across this video segment on my pvr and thought I’d put it online, for old times’ sake. It’s the news report that CBC produced for the 5th anniversary of the Yulblog gatherings, which took place in 2005. You’ll recognize a few of the old-timers, including Ed, Mikel, Nika, Antoine, Marie-Jo, André, Marie-Chantale, MEB, CFD, François, Karl and quite a few others we haven’t seen in a while.
