{"id":960,"date":"2005-06-22T11:50:00","date_gmt":"2005-06-22T16:50:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/martinepage.com\/wp\/2005\/06\/22\/adaptation\/"},"modified":"2005-06-22T11:50:00","modified_gmt":"2005-06-22T16:50:00","slug":"adaptation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.martinepage.com\/blog\/2005\/06\/22\/adaptation\/","title":{"rendered":"Adaptation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Ian McEwan&rsquo;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/exec\/obidos\/tg\/detail\/-\/038572179X\/qid=1119456020\/sr=8-1\/ref=sr_8_xs_ap_i1_xgl14\/104-1086937-3211930?v=glance&amp;s=books&amp;n=507846\">Atonement<\/a> is being adapted for the big screen and it&rsquo;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/news\/main.jhtml?xml=\/news\/2005\/06\/19\/neyre19.xml&amp;sSheet=\/news\/2005\/06\/19\/ixhome.html\">making the news<\/a> in the U.K. <\/p>\n<p>It&rsquo;s the same production company which adapted another McEwan novel, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0375735\/\">Enduring Love<\/a>. Not an easy book to adapt and the result <a href=\"http:\/\/archive.salon.com\/ent\/movies\/review\/2004\/10\/28\/enduring_love\/\">wasn&rsquo;t without its flaws<\/a> but the performances were great. The <a href=\"http:\/\/archive.salon.com\/books\/sneaks\/1998\/02\/20review.html\">famous opening scene<\/a> though, with the hot-air balloon, was as powerful as it was in the book.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/name\/nm0358960\/\">Christopher Hampton<\/a>, who wrote the great adaptation of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0094947\/\">Dangerous Liaisons<\/a>, is working on the screenplay for Atonement.
