Geek girl wearing glasses goes both ways
Wired News reported today that Linux has been using the pretty face of an unknown geek girl to promote the upcoming LinuxWorld Conference. The problem is, the same geek girl face has been used by Microsoft for a while now, in their Virtual Studio.net section.
That’s what happens when you get your photos form an image bank. Hell, I would have gladly given my geek girl wearing glasses photo to Linux for free, if only they had asked nicely. Yeah, yeah, I know. I’m not a pretty blond with a sweet smile, but have you seen a lot of them at Linux conferences anyway? A frog in the Valley mentioned that problem on his blog recently, and pointed to this Web site giving advice on how to encourage women in Linux.
Maybe if the Linux penguin had a cute little crochet outfit like this one? Or maybe they need to promise women a penguin halter top? Or maybe just stuffed toys penguins. Now that’s one photo I would have loved to see on Linux’s Web site!
