This is waiting week: waiting to hear feedback from the director about the screenplay, waiting for a confirmation that the screenplay will be turned in for financing in April vs September, waiting for a Radio-Canada announcement that might have a strong impact on the next 12 months of my life, waiting for all my T4s and the like so that I can prepare my taxes, waiting to see if I’ll be penniless after I pay my taxes, waiting to confirm a Spring trip to San Francisco, waiting for friends to tell me if they want to go to the cabane � sucre, waiting to see if my new exercising routine will work, waiting for my knee to get better, waiting for my osteopath to call back, waiting for 12 monkeys time, waiting for the roofer to come and redo the damn roof, waiting for the snow to melt so we can work on the backyard, waiting for Daylight Saving Time (April 4th), waiting for Spiff to shut up (he’s got Spring fever and wants to get out of the house), waiting for my terribly bitten nails to grow back.

Vu : Under the Tuscan Sun.

Comme le film m�impatientait un peu (trop id�alis�, trop romantique), je me suis mise � observer Diane Lane. �J�aimerais bien avoir l�air de �a quand j�aurai son �ge�, que je me disais. V�rification sur IMDB. Choc. J�ai un an de moins que Diane Lane (elle est n�e en 1965)� Je ne dois pas �tre la seule � me tromper sur son �ge puisqu�on lui fait toujours jouer des femmes en plein middle-age!

�a m�a fait tout dr�le tout de m�me : c�est de �a que �a a l�air, une femme de mon �ge? J�ai de toute �vidence besoin d�ajuster mes perceptions. �a m�apprendra � fr�quenter des p�tits jeunes que je rencontre sur Internet�

Et en parlant d��ge et de perception, il faudrait que je m�ach�te le nouveau Hanif Kureishi, une sorte de Freaky Friday pour les hommes en pleine crise du d�mon du midi.

Enfin! �a faisait un si�cle que je voulais voir ce film de Coppola, apr�s en avoir vu quelques sc�nes � l��cole de cin�ma. Belle �uvre lente et captivante et qui porte bien son �ge, elle� Impressionnant montage sonore de Walter Murch, dont je n�ai toujours pas termin� le livre.

Avis aux geeks : Il y a une superbe sc�ne dans The Conversation qui vaut � elle seule la location du film. Un groupe d�experts en surveillance �lectronique (s’inspirant de vraies personnes) organise un petit party priv� apr�s avoir assist� � un tradeshow pr�sentant de nouveaux �quipements. Leur discussion, qui tourne autour de la technologie et qui compare les exploits de ces hommes, m�a fait penser � bien des �changes dont j�ai �t� t�moin entre geeks de l�informatique… � voir absolument!

New research shows that Anglophones have a persistent love affair with the idea of speaking both of Canada’s official two languages but seem entirely incapable of actually learning French.

The poll � conducted by Environics on behalf of Canadians for Research and Information on Canada (CRIC) � shows that only 7 per cent of Canadian Anglophones outside Quebec consider themselves proficient in French. Three-quarters of the Anglos who do not speak French wish that they did, the same proportion as when a similar survey was conducted over 25 years ago.

Same proportions as 25 years ago? Now that’s what I call a motivated nation…
