Here’s a flashmob I would have loved to join:
Pillow fight erupts amid shrieks, giggles:
Nearly 1,000 people drawn by Internet postings and word-of-mouth converged near San Francisco’s Ferry Building on Tuesday night for a half-hour outdoor pillow fight.
The underground event erupted at 6 p.m. in the center of Justin Herman Plaza with a mass rush of shrieking, laughing combatants — many of whom arrived with pillows concealed in shopping bags, backpacks and the like.
Within minutes, pillows were arcing, feathers were flying, and by the time the Ferry Building’s clock tower clanged the half-hour, the plaza and hundreds of people were covered in white down that gave the scene a wintry lustre.
Check out these crazy photos on Flickr.
As my san franciscan friend Alex said: only in San Francisco… Well, not quite! There was another pillow fight club in Milan last November. And another one in London. And another one in Toronto. And another one in… Tel Aviv! In fact, the pillow fight clubs are all over now.
I think maybe we should start one of the Jacques-Cartier bridge when the fireworks season starts again next summer. ;-)
Wow; look at all the « guess where » Flickr groups! I’m such a Flickr n00b, I’m only beginning to catch on to using my ‘groups’ options. We can’t have pillow fight clubs here in the Maritimes; people would surely slip a brick or doorknob into their pillowcase. Maybe it works best in 100% Egyptian cotton 400+ threadcount communities.
yup, there was one in Edinburgh last year, I recommended it to a few friends and tehn forgot to go! gutted.
I’m not that crazy about the bridge ’cause it’s dangerous, hard to get to, would stop commuter traffic — and most importantly, there would be no straights to freak.
I would think more like Dorchester Square on a lunch hour, or some other square. (Jacques Cartier Square? Place d’Armes?). So there are maximum spectators and a nearby metro stop.
There’s always Tam-Tams, but then again there’s nothing incongruous about pillowfighting. IT should be some place people don’t EXPECT to see weird behavior … but without having to spill into a street.
The one in San Francisco got 1000 people — good thing it was held in a park!
slowly montrealers will discover or hear about the pillow fight club and it might happen here also. I’m thinking Ste-Hlne Island on a sunday morning.
