I agree (I’d even say suffering is required, not just for authors but for anyone to gain any depth in life (there might be exceptions, I just haven’t met them!)), but… Now explain to us where and how you can find time to write « seriously » when you have a full-time job, a spouse and perhaps kids and pets. Seriously.
One page a day is not that much… I need twenty minutes to write one page, maybe not Hemingway-quality but readable.
Less than that is pure laziness or lack of talent…
I guess it depends on your style. One page a day would lead me absolutely nowhere. If/when I « truly » write, I have to be in a quasi trance. That takes time, real time. If I wrote a novel 20 minutes at a time, I’d end up with 300 novel beginnings, middle and ends, each one-page long, not with something that holds together…
J’ai étudié, j’ai dégoté un emploi stable, j’ai beaucoup aimé et pleuré. Sans aucun doute, je m’approche de plus en plus près de mon livre. ;-)
