It’s not just you, darling

New research shows that Anglophones have a persistent love affair with the idea of speaking both of Canada’s official two languages but seem entirely incapable of actually learning French.

The poll � conducted by Environics on behalf of Canadians for Research and Information on Canada (CRIC) � shows that only 7 per cent of Canadian Anglophones outside Quebec consider themselves proficient in French. Three-quarters of the Anglos who do not speak French wish that they did, the same proportion as when a similar survey was conducted over 25 years ago.

Same proportions as 25 years ago? Now that’s what I call a motivated nation…
