B. and I saw Frida last night. Aside from the fact that it was wonderful to escape work for one night and hide in a (very full) movie theater, I greatly enjoyed the movie. I know I wasn’t the only one. B. had a big smile on his face through most of the film (was it because of Selma’s often exposed breasts?) and the audience actually clapped during the credits at the end. The director, a woman, did a fabulous job at turning a myth into a real human being. I particularly appreciated the way she managed to integrate Kahlo’s and Rivera’s artwork into the film, painting over the faces and the clothes of the actors to meticulously recreate a tableau. And of course, the music and the setting made us both want to buy tickets for Mexico!
