Update from the road

-The Fall colors come out earlier in Montreal than in Nova-Scotia, which is still quite green.

-Fried scallops and shrimps bought from a little roadside restaurant are quite a treat, especially when you sit in front of the Bras d’Or lake on a gorgeous sunny day.

-It is worth it to pay more than 65$ for a motel room in Truro, otherwise the place is probably going to suck.

-The town called « Manadoo » is actually really called Main--Dieu.

-There are more intricate stories in the Blork extended family than in a Victor Levy-Beaulieu soap opera.

-Everybody here calls Ed « Eddie ».

-Blork doesn’t really talk fast and doesn’t mumble compared to most Cape Bretoners.

-When Cape Bretoners have money, they keep their houses very modest and buy fancy cars instead.

-Eddie is a lucky boy: he put 50 cents in a slot machine at the Sydney Casino (where members of his family hang out quite frequently) and won $375. And that was before we ate breakfast (yes, at the casino) this morning.

-People around here are very, very nice and friendly and they have a positive outlook on life considering that their economy is not doing so well.

-Tomorrow: we leave the family behind and start touring the Cabot trail.
