Since I had been working so hard in the last few weeks, I decided to take it easy for a day or so, keeping away from any writing. What do I do with this time I finally have on my hands? I empty my wallet, of course.
My antique M100 had become unreliable and I was seriously considering the Treo 650 (thanks to CFD for his review) until I calculated how much it would cost me even if I bought it with a three year contract. Voice and data plans for these machines can easily cost you 100$ a month.
When I saw that a new Wi-Fi package was included with this baby, I just couldn’t resist. And oooooh, is it nice! What a beautiful, bright screen! Setting it up was a breeze and all my old data and programs made it to the new PDA without any trouble. I got an extra 256MB SD memory card so I could record video (the quality is surprising) and use the PDA as an MP3 player. I’ll probably end up buying a dedicated MP3 player but for now this is sufficient for me. The sound is pretty good and the camera takes the best pictures I’ve seen from any phone or PDA.
I’ve tested the Wi-Fi card (SD) that was included in the package and it worked right away, without any complicated set up. It’s really weird to browse the Web on such a small machine but the mini browser is doing a decent job at adapting the content to fit the screen. I just got the machine yesterday so I need to do more testing to see how much I actually like this function but I know it will be convenient for quick Google searches or to check out movie times on Cinema Montreal when I’m away from my home desktop.
I’ll get busy again with work next week and it’s a good thing because now I’m tempted to go buy fancy accessories and applications…
