You can’t watch Jon Stewart in a pair of shoes

The Girls Gone Wired survey of 1,400 women and 700 men aged 15 to 49, which was conducted by market researcher TRU, found that given the choice, women would opt for tech items rather than luxury items like jewelry or vacations.

The study found 77 percent of women surveyed would prefer a new plasma television to a diamond solitaire necklace and 56 percent would opt for a new plasma TV over a weekend vacation in Florida.

Even shoes lost out. The study found 86 percent would prefer a new digital video camera to a pair of designer shoes.

Big Bang

Too hot to cook last night, so my beau and I went to a sushi restaurant, hoping to find AC and fresh fish. We got both and on the drive back home, we got stuck in the spectacular lightning storm which everybody is talking about today. We decided to stop the car in a big parking lot so that we could get a clear view of the sky without trees or building. Instead of making out in the car (hey, we’re in our forties and we’re geeky), we got our cell phones out and played « who catches the best lightning ». As you can see from this cool picture, I won.

When we drove back home the storm was still raging and we couldn’t see ten feet in front of the car. As we turned on our street, the street lights went out and we were greeted home by a power outage and an hyperactive cat. I don’t usually mind power outages so much (candles are fun when there are two of you) but I knew I wouldn’t get much sleep without the AC running in the bedroom.

When I woke up early this morning, sweaty and beat up from the hot night, I called Hydro Qubec right away. An automated system asked me for my address and told me that power should come back aroun 11pm on Thursday night. What! 48 hours without power! I’m crazy busy with work and all my files are stuck on my computer! I guess that’s one more reason to buy a laptop…

Turns out that Hydro was being pessimistic. The power came back around 12h30, for about 1 minute. I just had time to do a little happy dance… and then the power went out again.

It’s been back now for about 20 minutes.

So unless there’s another visit like last month or a natural disaster, I should be at Yulblog tonight. Tired and most likely sweaty but hey, plug your nose and be nice to me and everything should be fine.
