J’aime beaucoup lire les blogues d’expatri�s et j’aime particuli�rement lire ceux �crits par des gens qui quittent leur pays pour venir vivre � Montr�al. Leur regard sur notre ville est tant�t pr�visible, tant�t surprenant mais toujours rafra�chissant.
Ces jours-ci – vous comprendrez vite pourquoi – j’appr�cie tout particuli�rement le blogue de nightingaleshiraz. Elle vient de quitter Rome pour s’intaller � Westmount, un d�m�nagement qui la plonge dans un tout autre univers. Elle vient de se taper une recherche d’appartement intensive et a enfin trouv� quelque chose qui n’est disponible que pour le… 1er juillet, bien s�r!
J’aime bien ce passage �crit apr�s qu’elle ait �t� confront�e aux clauses de son nouveau bail:
« Look out also, for the clause about « keeping the dwelling heated even when away ». As in, even if you’re on vacation in January (lucky you), the heating needs to be on. Of course when I saw this I had to ask (the quasi-Italian in me was already cluck-clucking at North American wastefulness and flagrant disregard for energy resources). The landlord thought my question was silly. « If the heating isn’t on, the pipes freeze. then they burst, » he said patiently. I nodded, « oh yes, of *course* — that makes *perfect* sense, » and swallowed. Hard. »
