I really enjoyed Miranda July’s first feature film called Me and You and Everyone We Know. (My comments about it are here.) It is now available for rental on DVD and I highly recommend it to you. July’s work is deceptively simple (as well as her acting) but there’s something in the characters and ambiance she creates that just stays with you after the film is over.
A new DVD magazine called Wholphin was recently launched and it includes a short film by Miranda July. It’s called Are you the favorite person of anybody? and it features the filmmaker herself as well as the fantastic John C. Reilly. You can watch the short film on Salon for free but you’ll have to view an ad first. Don’t let that stop you. It’s a great piece. Wholphin Magazine describes it as « the closest thing to cinema haiku we’ve ever seen ». You cannot watch it and not wonder: « Am I the favorite person of anybody? »
God, I’m dying to make a short film again.
Might as well face it
You’re addicted to Lost.
(Watch the extented version of the video. It’s pretty funny.)
